Underworld Exploration
Return to Dwarven Castle for Luca’s Necklace (required for the next dungeon), then optionally loot Tomra, the Cave of Summons, and the Land of Summons for 26 chests, 2 hidden items, 13 new bestiary entries, and the Asura and Leviathan summons.
Dwarven Castle
Return to the Dwarven Castle and walk to the throne room. King Giott hands you Luca’s Necklace, needed for the Sealed Cavern later.
Visit the infirmary next: south to 1F, west stairs to the inn, northeast stairs to B1, and through the nearby door. A cutscene plays and Cid arrives.
Cid upgrades the airship to fly over lava. The entire underworld is now accessible. Board the airship and fly out.
Tomra
Shops
New Enemies
Fly southwest over the lava to find a small town. Three new bestiary entries roam the lava fields outside; Blood Flower is weak to Fire and Hell Flapper is weak to Projectile (Rosa’s Aim).
The Diamond gear is a major defensive leap. Priority is Diamond Armlets (4,000 Gil, fits every party member) and the Diamond set for Cecil and Kain. Pick up the Gold Hairpin for Rydia’s Intellect if Gil allows.
All the loot sits in the northwest house. Four chests hold Bomb Fragment, Zeus’s Wrath, Dry Ether, and 2,000 Gil. Two pots contain an Antarctic Wind and a Bestiary scroll. That’s everything for Tomra.
Cave of Summons
Fly northwest over the lava to a small island with a cave. The floors are lava, so cast Float on the entire party before stepping inside. Float persists between floors.
New Enemies
Four things to handle carefully:
- Belphegor: weak to Holy and Projectile; Cecil’s Holy attacks and Rosa’s Aim land hard
- Thunder Dragon: 7,600 HP rare spawn that absorbs Lightning; weak to Projectile. Don’t cast Thunder on it
- Arachne: weak to Ice and Projectile
- Summoner: casts King Naga as a summon mid-fight; let the summon resolve at least once to register the King Naga bestiary entry before killing the Summoner
B1
Walk northeast and open the chest for a Phoenix Down. Cut west and push into the wall to enter a secret passage. Follow it to an Ether. Return to the northeast chest and walk south for a Hi-Potion. Push west, north, west again, and take the stairs down.
B2
Walk southeast for a Hi-Potion. Cut west, then north, and follow the path northwest for a Cottage. Loop south to the split, east, and follow the path to the stairs down.
B3
Follow the linear path south for a Phoenix Down. Walk east past the split for a Bestiary. From that chest, push east into the wall to find a secret passage. Follow it east, south, west, then north and enter through the west side. Three chests inside: Hi-Potion, Poison Axe, and Kikuichimonji. Return through the passage without exiting, continue north to another exit, and follow the path to a chest. Heal and quick save first. Opening it triggers a monster-in-a-box against 5 Warriors. Reward: Defender. That’s 11/11 chests for the cave.
Backtrack to the split between the two B3 chests and walk north to the warp pad.
Land of Summons
Shops
The warp pad drops you in the Land of Summons where the Eidolons live. Eleven chests, two summon bosses, and a shop tier above Tomra’s.
Open Chests
Walk northwest from the warp pad and open the chest for an Ether. Continue north for a Bestiary. Loop clockwise to the east side for 5,000 Gil, then south for 6,000 Gil.
Secret Room
From the 6,000 Gil chest, walk north and step on the shadowed tile to teleport into a secret room. Four chests: Yoichi’s Bow, Dry Ether, Yoichi Arrow, and Elixir. Exit the secret room.
Rat Tail and NW House
The Rat Tail chest sits behind the northern warp pad. Step on the pad, then immediately step on it again at the new location. Walk south to reach the chest: Rat Tail. Hang onto it; you’ll trade it for Adamantite later. Step on the pad again to return.
Enter the northwest house and grab both chests: Bestiary and Phoenix Down. That’s 11/11 chests for the Land of Summons.
Walk to the library (the building with a Chocobo outside).
Take the stairs down and step on the warp pad to reach the throne room.
How to Beat Asura
Rydia learns the Asura summon. Heal, quick save, then speak to the old man nearby and select Yes.
How to Beat Leviathan
Rydia learns the Leviathan summon, one of the strongest in the game and a near-one-shot on most enemy groups going forward.
Make your way back to the underworld. Fly northwest to the Sylvan Cave for the next chapter.
Continue to the Sylvan Cave.
