Final Fantasy 2 Pixel Remaster rebuilds the 1988 Famicom original with updated pixel art, quality-of-life fixes, and Nobuo Uematsu's re-arranged soundtrack. The game follows Firion, Maria, Guy, and Leon as they rebel against the Palamecian Empire, with a story that drew heavy inspiration from The Empire Strikes Back (right down to the absent party member who returns under the villain's banner). It scrapped traditional leveling entirely. Instead, stats grow based on what you do in battle: take hits to raise HP, cast spells to boost Intelligence. And it introduced two franchise staples along the way: chocobos and the recurring character Cid.
FF2 sold over a million copies but remains one of the most divisive entries in the series; designer Akitoshi Kawazu later admitted the team went too far in making it different from the original. The 2021 Pixel Remaster smooths out the roughest edges while keeping the core systems intact.
Everything you need is here: a 19-chapter walkthrough, all 128 bestiary entries with guaranteed farming locations, a trophy guide for the platinum, and a missables checklist so you don't lock yourself out of 100%. Four dungeons are one-time only, so check the missables before clearing them.
Walkthrough

Altair
Escape the siege of Fynn and wake up in Altair's rebel hideout. Learn the keyword system, explore Gatrea, and pick up your first equipment.

Semitt Falls
Travel through Paloom, Poft, and Salamand before descending into Semitt Falls. Rescue the trapped miners and bring the Mythril back to Altair.

Bafsk
Infiltrate Bafsk and sneak into the cave where the Empire is building the Dreadnought. Confront the Dark Knight and escape before the dungeon seals.
Bestiary
128 enemies with guaranteed farming locations for every single one. Some enemies only appear in temporary dungeons (Dreadnought, Cyclone, Castle Palamecia) and sea encounters disappear after obtaining the Ultima Tome. Check the missables guide before clearing those areas. Three trophies are tied to bestiary completion (50%, 80%, and 100%).
Trophies
28 PSN trophies: 14 Bronze, 8 Silver, 5 Gold, and 1 Platinum. Seven are missable. The Dreadnought, Cyclone, and Castle Palamecia can't be revisited, so grab every chest and fight every enemy type before leaving. Boost settings don't void anything.
Reference Guides
The leveling guide explains how proficiency works and the best ways to train each stat. Check the missables page before entering the Dreadnought, Leviathan, Cyclone, or Castle Palamecia.
