Final Fantasy 2 - Missables Guide

Last updated: February 28, 2026

Final Fantasy 2 Pixel Remaster has more permanently missable content than any other game in the series. Four dungeons are destroyed after completion, one location disappears for good, and several bestiary enemies only appear during specific story windows. Miss any of them and they're gone forever; there's no way to go back. And the single most important item on this list (the Blood Sword) is easy to walk right past if you don't know where to look.

One-Time Dungeons

These four dungeons are destroyed or become inaccessible after story events. All chests inside are permanently missable.

Other Missable Chests

These chests aren't in one-time dungeons but still become inaccessible at certain story points.

Missable Location

The Rebel Camp is the only location in FF2 that's lost for good. It disappears once you begin the assault on Castle Fynn. Visit it after the Coliseum to add it to your location log.

Missable Passwords

Four passwords are lost for the rest of the run if you don't learn them before certain story triggers.

Missable Bestiary Enemies

These enemies only appear during specific story windows and cannot be encountered later.

Sea enemies (before Mysidian Tower)

All four sea enemies vanish after you obtain the Ultima Tome in the Mysidian Tower. Sail around before entering and you'll run into them naturally.

  • Hell Diver: sea encounters while sailing
  • Buccaneer: sea encounters while sailing
  • Killer Fish: sea encounters while sailing
  • Sea Snake: sea encounters while sailing

Overworld enemies

  • Phorusracos: route to Fynn, disappears after the Cyclone
  • Cockatrice: route to Cave of Mysidia only
  • Stunner: route to Cave of Mysidia only
  • Mantis King: brief window after Mysidian Tower
  • Antlion: desert areas, before Mysidian Tower
  • Land Ray: coastal areas, before Mysidian Tower

Castle Palamecia exclusives

These 5 enemies only appear in Castle Palamecia and are lost when the castle is destroyed:

  • Black Knight
  • Eyemoeba
  • General
  • Skull
  • Stone Golem

Missable Stat Boosts

In the Mysidian Tower crystal chamber, touching the center golden crystal (the Ultima Tome) teleports you out immediately. You must touch all four corner silver crystals first to receive +10 bonuses to Strength, Agility, Intelligence, and Spirit for your entire party. These boosts are permanent and apply to all three main characters (not guests).
