Head north from Kaipo to find the cave entrance. The Underground Waterway connects Kaipo to Damcyan through a sprawling two-part dungeon with 18 chests, a hidden chamber behind a waterfall, and a new party member halfway through. The Subterranean Lake at the end adds 4 more chests and a boss. The Kaipo inn is only 50 Gil if you need cheap healing between fights.
Underground Waterway
Eighteen chests across five floors, a hidden chamber behind a waterfall, and a new party member. Three notable enemies to watch for: Water Bugs counter magic with Curaja (healing themselves to full), Tiny Mages resist magical damage, and Zombies are resistant to physical damage. Sahagin, Tiny Mage, and Red Mousse start appearing from B3 onward.
South entrance. Go north from the entrance to find two chests: Potion and Maiden's Kiss (11-12/342). Head back to the entrance and west across the first bridge. Open the chest at the bottom for a Tent (13/342). Continue along the path and you'll run into an old man blocking the way. Speak to him and Sage Tellah joins the party.

Past Tellah, head east to find stairs leading down to the water. Wade in and follow the narrow waterfall upward to reach a chest containing Iron Armlet (14/342). Go back to the stairs and look west for a wide waterfall. Walk through the middle to find a secret room.
B2. Backtrack to where you met Tellah and go north up the stairs. Head north through the bridges and take the stairs down to the water. Go up the west stairs to find a Potion (18/342). Back at the water, head south and up the stairs on the west side for an Ether (19/342).
Go west a bit and then south across the bridge. Enter the southwest room to trigger a tutorial on magic fields. These glowing circles act as safe havens where you can use Tents and save your game; you'll find them scattered throughout the rest of the game's dungeons.

Exit through the north stairs to return to the previous room. Head east and grab the Ice Rod from the upper area (20/342).

B3. Go south and back down to the water, then through the door. Follow the bridges until you hit a fork. Take the west path to find two chests: 580 Gil and a Bomb Fragment (21-22/342). Head back to the fork and take the other direction through the door.
North B2. Turn left and follow the path all the way to what looks like a dead end. Push into the wall to find a secret passage. Follow it through to the middle of the area where a chest sits at the bottom: Feathered Cap (23/342). Back at the entrance to this section, head north and grab the Potion on the path (24/342). Continue north through the stairs.
North entrance. Alligator and Toadgre start appearing here. If you can't get the Alligator bestiary entry, don't worry; they spawn frequently in the Subterranean Lake ahead. Head north and take the first stairs down to reach two chests: Ether and Antarctic Wind (25-26/342). Go back to the middle area, cross the bridge east, and take the stairs down on that side. Two more chests here hold the Hourglass and the Shadowblade (27-28/342). Equip it on Cecil right away.

And that's all 18 chests for the Underground Waterway. Head through the north exit to the overworld. Use a Tent and save, then enter the cave just nearby.
Subterranean Lake
Step forward at the waterfall to trigger a scene, then you'll drop down to B2. Alligators appear more frequently here than in the waterway (good for filling that bestiary entry). Go up the stairs and follow the linear path to a stairway heading south. Descend to find two chests: Hades Helm and Hades Gloves (29-30/342).
Head back up and take the northwest bridge through the door to B1. Go east and open both chests on the path for Hades Armor and Hermes Shoes (31-32/342). Continue north across the bridge, then take the stairs down to the water.

Heal up and quick save before interacting with the tentacles blocking the waterfall.
How to beat Octomammoth
Octomammoth has 2,350 HP and is weak to Lightning and Darkness. Have Tellah and Rydia spam Thunder while Cecil attacks physically. The boss starts with eight tentacles that disappear as you deal damage, reducing its attack power.
After the fight, head through the waterfall path to return to the overworld. Damcyan Castle is north-northeast of Kaipo.
