FF4 has no item crafting or shops that change stock based on story progress. Most healing items are available from the first shop in Baron and stay useful through the entire game. Battle items cast spells without using MP, which makes them valuable during long dungeon stretches when your casters run dry. Stat-boost items (Silver Apple, Golden Apple, Soma Drop) are rare finds in the Lunar Subterrane and should go to your permanent party members.
Healing & curative items
Stock up on Hi-Potions and Phoenix Downs before every dungeon. Ethers are expensive at 10,000 Gil but essential for keeping Rydia and Rosa casting through multi-floor dungeons. Buy Cottages for save point heals. Remedies at 5,000 Gil cure everything except KO, but individual status cures are cheaper if you know what you'll face. The Unicorn Horn is the best party-wide status heal but can't be purchased.
