Troia & Magnetic Cavern

12 New Enemies 36 Chests 9 Items

Troia town and castle, the Magnetic Cavern, and the Twin Harp key item. 36 chests, 9 hidden items, and 12 new bestiary entries including the chapter boss.

Outside Troia

Fly to the northwestern continent and look for a waterfall with a town nearby. Before landing at the town, disembark on the grasslands south of Troia and walk north to find a hidden Chocobo Forest. Grab the Gysahl Greens inside, then fly back and land on the tiny grass patch by the town.

Five new bestiary entries roam the Troia overworld. Fight until all five register before heading in.

Troia

Four hidden items wait in the northeast corner of town. Cross the bridge north, walk east, and take the stairs down into the water. Follow the river all the way north to another set of stairs. Climb up and through the secret passage to reach a girl standing near some grass. Search four spots: 1,000 Gil at the top, Decoy at the top-left, Ether at the bottom-left, and Dry Ether at the bottom-right.

Troia Castle

Walk north through the main hall and into the castle. Cut northeast and exit through the door, then south and through another door to reach a room with three staircases.

Middle Stairway

Take it down to B1 and search the pot for Bacchus’s Cider. Loop back up to the three-stairway room.

Bacchus's Cider - Troia Castle B1, pot in the middle stairway room (36/54).

Right Stairway

Walk down to B1. Step on the button in the center of the room to unlock the surrounding chests. Eight total, left to right: Tent, Tent, Hi-Potion, Hi-Potion, Ether, Ether, Ruby Ring, and Ruby Ring.

Twin Harp

Return to the main hall and take the western door this time. Walk south and through the door to reach the infirmary. Approach the bed for a cutscene with Edward. You receive the Twin Harp, the key item that disrupts the Magnetic Cavern’s field during the boss fight ahead.

Edward hands over the Twin Harp.

The left stairway in the three-stairway room is sealed for now. Come back later to claim what’s behind it. Leave the castle.

Chocobo Village

Back on the overworld, walk north through the woods until you reach a small forest area. This is the Chocobo Village, home of the Black Chocobo and the last Chocobo-related location in the game.

In the southeast, search the bushes for Gysahl Greens. Walk north until you see a patch of grass on the ground, then push right against the trees to reveal a secret passage. Follow it east and search the two spots for two more Gysahl Greens. That’s all 3 items here.

Talk to the Black Chocobo. It flies over water but can’t cross mountains; it only lands on forest tiles. Fly east following the river and through the mountains to find the Magnetic Cavern entrance. Land in the nearby forest, but don’t go in yet. Strip all metallic equipment first and swap to the non-metal setup from the warning at the top of Troia.

Magnetic Cavern

Ten chests across four floors and five new bestiary entries. Damage output drops noticeably without metal weapons; lean on Tellah’s spells and Yang’s claws (the only party member unaffected by the field). Mind Flayer has a rare chance to drop the Mind Flayer summon item, but save that grind for later when Sirens are available.

B1

From the entrance, walk east past the staircase and open the chest for a Hi-Potion. Loop back and follow the path down. Grab the Unicorn Horn, then continue down the stairs.

B2

Walk west, north at the split, then west again for an Ether. Backtrack to the split and cut northeast across the bridge to a door. Two chests inside: 2,000 Gil and Ether. Exit the room, push west, and take the stairs down.

B3

Take the nearby door to find a save point. Continue south across the bridge and enter the bottom door. Three chests: Hi-Potion, Spider’s Silk, and Hourglass. Exit and walk west across another bridge, then north through the rock formation to a door. Inside: Fairy Claw. Equip it on Yang. Cut west and take the stairs down.

B4

Follow the bridge west and continue north to a chest: Emergency Exit. That’s 10/10 for the cavern. The door south of the bridge leads to the boss, but cut east first for a save room. Heal and save before walking north through the door to the Crystal Room.

How to Beat Dark Elf

The first encounter is unwinnable. The magnetic field disables every metal weapon and the party collapses. Let the scene play out. Edward wakes up in Troia and plays the Twin Harp, disrupting the field. Your metal equipment works again. Re-equip Cecil with the Sword of Legend (Holy-elemental, Paladin only) and update everyone’s gear.

The Dark Elf in the Crystal Room.

Once you’re re-equipped, walk back through the Crystal Room door and interact with the Dark Elf. The Twin Harp’s effect persists, so your gear works for the rest of the fight. Quick save before engaging.

Around 5,000 HP remaining, Dark Elf transforms into Dark Dragon (3,927 HP). The Dragon resists Holy magic but the Sword of Legend’s Holy weapon damage still goes through, since weapon-element damage uses physical defense, not magic defense. Tellah should heal rather than cast offensive spells (same sky-high magic defense as phase one).

Grab the Earth Crystal after the fight. Leave the Crystal Chamber first, then use Cecil’s Teleport spell or the Emergency Exit to leave the cavern. Teleport won’t work inside the chamber itself.

Troia Castle Reward Room

Interact with the Black Chocobo outside to fly back to the village, then walk to Troia Castle. Enter and walk north to the Clerics for a story cutscene. Afterward, cut to the east side of the castle and down the left stairway in the three-stairway room.

Talk to the woman behind the bars and select Yes; she opens the path to the reward room.

The reward room is sealed by a woman behind bars; select Yes when she asks.

Inside are 18 chests in two rows. Top row, left to right: Hi-Potion, Remedy, Ether, Dry Ether, Elixir, Echo Herbs, Great Bow, Fire Arrow, and 5,000 Gil. Bottom row, left to right: Hi-Potion, Remedy, Ether, Dry Ether, Silver Apple, Echo Herbs, Ice Arrow, 50,000 Gil, and Thunder Arrow.

That’s everything for Troia. Leave the castle and board the airship. A cutscene plays, directing you to the Tower of Zot.
