Sylvan Cave
Fly to the northwest corner of the Underworld and land near the cave. 32 chests wait inside, and 6 new bestiary entries spawn throughout the dungeon and in the Hidden Chamber monster-in-a-box chests. The Sylvan Cottage at the end sets up the Sylph summon side quest.
Sylvan Cave
New Enemies
Every floor has damaging lava. Cast Float once before stepping in; it persists across all floors until you leave the dungeon. The 6 new bestiary entries spawn as random encounters across the dungeon and also appear in the Hidden Chamber monster-in-a-box chests. Two to handle carefully:
- Evil Dreamer: absorbs Fire (Fire heals it). No listed weakness; physical attacks and Bio work cleanest
- Mammon: weak to Fire (Rydia’s Firaga lands hard)
- Tiny Toad: weak to Ice (Rydia’s Blizzaga)
Heal and quick save before each Hidden Chamber chest reveal.
B1
Walk east and open both reachable chests for Angel Arrow and Bestiary. Cut south, west, then south down the stairs to B2.
B2 and B3
On B2, walk east, north, then down the stairs to B3. On B3, walk north and open all three chests. The top-right one is accessible from a secret passage just below the bottom chest: Hi-Potion, Maiden’s Kiss, and Fairy Rod. Cut south to the middle of the corridor, then push east into the wall to enter a secret passage. Follow it east, north, east to exit above five open chests. Climb upstairs.
B2 (middle corridor)
Follow the linear passage east and south to a small room with four chests: Remedy, Bomb Core, 2,000 Gil, and 3,000 Gil. Continue south to five more chests: Maiden’s Kiss, Maiden’s Kiss, Ether, Bestiary, and Emergency Exit. Step on the hole under the chests to drop to B3.
Hidden Chamber
On B3 (after dropping through the south row hole), walk north and west through a hidden passage to find a warp pad. Step on it to reach the Hidden Chamber. Every chest here is a monster-in-a-box; heal and quick save before opening each.
- Top left: Evil Dreamer x6 → Red Fang
- Top middle: Evil Dreamer x6 → White Fang
- Top right: Evil Dreamer x6 → Blue Fang
- Bottom left: Malboro x2 + Mammon x2 → Moonring Blade
- Bottom middle: Malboro x4 → Avenger
- Bottom right: Undergrounder x2 → Medusa Arrow
Leviathan handles the Malboro and Mammon fights cleanly. The Evil Dreamer x6 fights are the trap. Don’t cast Fire on those rooms (Evil Dreamers absorb it); use Bio, physicals, or Holy. After looting all six chests, take the warp pad on the right side to exit to the underworld. Heal, re-enter the cave, and continue.
Sylvan Cave - Second Visit
Recast Float as soon as you re-enter; you stepped out to the overworld between visits.
B1
Make your way to B2 via the south stairs, walk south and up the stairs back to a different part of B1. Cut northeast and push east into the wall to enter a secret passage. Follow it north, east, north, then west to reach a chest: Elven Bow. Backtrack to the entrance and walk west. Follow the path northwest to two chests: Cottage and 1,000 Gil. Loop south and take the nearest stairs down.
B2
Follow the path north, then east, and push east into the wall through a secret passage. Follow it south, east, south, east, north, then exit west to reach a chest. This one is a monster-in-a-box against Tiny Toad x6 and Bog Witch. Reward: Mage Masher. Exit the passage and walk south to the middle staircase. Climb up.
B1 and B3
On B1, walk north to five chests: Arctic Wind, Golden Apple, Soma Drop, Ether, and Hi-Potion. Cut south and down the stairs to B2. Push north and down to B3, where the chest near the entrance holds an Elixir. That’s 30/30 for the cave. Follow the south path and enter the building.
Sylvan Cottage
Talk to everyone inside, including the sleeping person in the bed; this triggers the Sylph summon side quest you’ll finish later. Open both chests for Hell Claw and Cat Claw. Climb upstairs and step on the platform to leave.
