Enemy list
Chest list
Fly northeast after leaving the Floating Continent. Your home is nothing but a tiny island floating above a vast ocean. A stranded shipwreck sits on a small island at the far edge of the map; land on the water nearby and head inside.
Wrecked Ship
There are no enemy encounters on the ship and no bestiary entries to register. Head south from the entrance and climb down the ladder near the mast. Go right through the hold and down another ladder to reach B2, where two chests sit: Zeus's Wrath and Blood Sword (147/367). The Blood Sword drains HP on every hit, which makes it a strong pick for boss fights where sustain matters. Save it for the Kraken fight at the end of this chapter.
Speak with the wizard nearby to learn that most of the world sank during a great earthquake. Then approach the girl in bed and give her an Antidote. She's Aria, Priestess of the Temple of Water, and she'll join your party after explaining that the Water Crystal needs your help. Return to the deck and board the Enterprise.
Temple of Water
Fly to the largest island on the mini-map and approach from the south shore. Head north to find the temple and enter. This is a short location with no enemies. If you need to heal, go right from the entrance; the top spring restores HP and MP while the bottom one revives KO'd allies.
Climb the stairs to 2F and interact with the Water Crystal shard on the floor. Aria will tell you to bring it to the cavern just north of here, so exit back to the overworld and enter the cave behind the temple.
Cave of Tides
The Cave of Tides spans four basement floors with five new bestiary entries and no treasure chests. All enemies hit noticeably harder than what you faced on the Floating Continent.
Cockatrices can petrify party members, so keep Gold Needles stocked. Twin Heads hit hard at 42 ATK with 305 HP, and they're common throughout the first three floors. Ropers are worth fighting despite the danger; they drop elemental damage items and buff items alongside solid XP. Agaliarept lurk in the water sections on the deepest floors and are the toughest regular enemy here at 315 HP and 45 ATK. Lightning spells shred them.
B1. Follow the path south until you reach a door. Aria will unlock it with a prayer. Continue through to the next exit, then head west across the bridge and take the stairs down.
B2. Head south from the entrance, then west. At the fork, take the north split. The path eventually curves south to the next set of stairs.
B3. Skip the stairs going up and instead go east across the bridge. Follow the southern path to the stairs leading down to B4.
B4. One long, linear path to the boss door. Heal up and save before you enter.
How to beat Kraken
Kraken has 5,000 HP and is weak to Lightning. Thundara from your mages combined with Zeus's Wrath items will bring him down in a few turns. A Scholar with Alchemy doubles item potency, making Zeus's Wrath hit even harder. His Blizzara damages the whole party and his Ink attack inflicts Blind, so bring Eye Drops or have Blindna ready on a White Mage.
Aria sacrifices herself during the fight to protect the party. The Water Crystal shatters, and its power flows into your warriors.
Water Crystal jobs
Seven new jobs unlock from the Water Crystal. This is the largest job expansion in the game and opens up completely different party compositions.
- Dragoon wields spears and can Jump to avoid attacks while dealing extra damage to dragons and wind-weak enemies. Train one now; a boss fight in the near future practically requires it
- Viking is a sturdy tank with massive HP. Draw Attack pulls enemy aggro, and dual-wielding shields in the back row makes them nearly unkillable. Axes for offense
- Dark Knight uses swords and katanas with Bladeblitz to hit all enemies. Their dark powers instantly defeat splitting or dividing enemies, which becomes critical in the Cave of Shadows later
- Black Belt is an upgraded Monk and one of the strongest damage dealers in the game. Boost charges up attacks for massive hits (but stacking it three times backfires). Kick targets all enemies
- Geomancer uses Terrain to draw free magical attacks from the environment, though the effect varies by location and can occasionally backfire. Bells as weapons
- Evoker summons creatures with a random 50/50 chance of either a healing effect or a damage effect. Less reliable than the Summoner job you'll get later, but available now
- Bard is a support job that gains new song abilities through job levels. Depending on the equipped weapon, songs can buff the party, debuff enemies, or inflict status effects
Before you can even experiment with the new jobs, an earthquake strikes and raises the entire ocean floor. You'll black out and wake up three days later in the town of Amur, stranded without the Enterprise.
