Fly northwest to Castle Sasune. The Djinn's curse turned Kazus and Sasune into ghost towns; confronting it inside the Sealed Cave is the only way to break it. This chapter covers three locations with 20 chests and 14 bestiary entries, including 3 missable sea enemies on the lake.

Flying the airship to Castle Sasune

Castle Sasune

Castle Sasune full walkthrough

The Western Tower is the only part of the castle with random encounters. Red Wisps, Dark Eyes, and Zombies patrol the floors. Red Wisps cast magic, so they hit your back row just as hard as the front; Zombies are sturdier but slow. Register all four entries before leaving. They count toward the Field Research - Professional trophy:

Climb to 3F for a Holy Arrow (23/367) and Hi-Potion (24/367). On 4F, the lone chest holds a Wightslayer (25/367), but opening it triggers a Griffon fight. At 150 HP and 21 ATK, the Griffon hits harder than anything you've faced so far. Heal up before you touch that chest; have your White Mage ready to Cure each turn and throw any leftover Antarctic Winds. The Wightslayer deals bonus damage to undead, and the Sealed Cave ahead is full of them.

Cross the courtyard to the Eastern Tower. No enemies spawn here. On 3F, grab Eye Drops (26/367) and an Antidote (27/367). Continue up to 4F for a Phoenix Down (28/367), Bow (29/367), and Wooden Arrow (30/367). There's a bed on 4F that fully restores your party; use it after the Griffon fight if you need to.

Head south across the courtyard into the main castle. Take the stairs up to 2F and walk left past the first hallway. Look for a hidden wall behind a banner on the left side and walk straight through it. Follow the hidden path (it'll appear on your minimap) and go up the stairs to 3F. Two chests here hold a Leather Shield (31/367) and Blizzard (32/367). Continue along the hallway and through another banner. Between two statues there's a second secret passage leading to a Tonfa (33/367). Double back to 2F, head north, and take the stairs down to 1F for two chests with 1000 Gil each (34-35/367).

All 13 chests in Castle Sasune are done. Talk to King Sasune in the throne room; he'll direct you toward the Sealed Cave to the north. Fly your airship over the lake and land near the cave entrance.

Sealed Cave

Sealed Cave full walkthrough

Six new bestiary entries wait in the Sealed Cave. Mummies and Skeletons are undead, so the Wightslayer tears through them if you picked it up. Cursed Coppers can poison your party; pack Antidotes or have Poisona ready. Shadows hit hard but go down fast. And the Revenant is the rare one here. It spawns most often on B3, so run a few extra laps on the bottom floor before you leave:

B1. Head south at the first fork for a Potion (36/367). Double back and go right. Follow the path north past a split for a Cure (37/367), then continue south to the stairs.

B2. Grab 500 Gil (38/367) from the chest in the southeast corner. Walk northeast and interact with the pile of bones to open a hidden passage. Princess Sara is on the other side; she joins your party as a guest. She won't fight random encounters, but she'll cast Cure during the Djinn fight. Take the stairs to B3.

B3. Go south to the dead end for an Antarctic Wind (39/367). Turn around and head north, picking up Eye Drops (40/367) along the way. That's all 5 chests in the Sealed Cave.

Check your bestiary before the boss. If you're missing the Revenant, stay on B3 and grind encounters until it shows up. You can revisit the Sealed Cave later, but you'll be teleported out after the Djinn fight; saves a trip if you handle it now.

How to Beat Djinn

The Djinn has 550 HP and is weak to Ice and Water. Cast Blizzard every turn with your Black Mage while everyone else attacks physically. Any leftover Antarctic Winds deal heavy ice damage too. The Djinn uses fire magic and strong physical attacks, so keep your White Mage healing each turn.

Sara seals the Djinn and teleports your party back to Castle Sasune. The curse lifts. You'll end up in King Sasune's throne room; speak to him for the Canoe, a key item that lets you cross shallow water on the overworld.

Back to Kazus

Leave the castle and head north toward the lake. Use your Canoe to cross, and fight every encounter along the way. Killer Fish, Hermit, and Sea Elemental all spawn on the water.

Castle Sasune to Kazus

Grab your airship on the far side of the lake and fly back to Kazus. Cid joins your party at the entrance. But before hitting the shops, duck into the cave at the northern edge of town.

Mythril Mines walkthrough

Not much to the Mythril Mines. Walk north and press the button on the wall to open a secret path. Follow it to B2 for two Mythril Swords (41-42/367). The same enemies from the Sealed Cave spawn here minus the Revenant, so nothing new to register.

With the curse lifted, Kazus's shops are finally open. The weapon shop sells Mythril Swords (500 Gil), Mythril Knives (500 Gil), and Mythril Rods (400 Gil); grab swords for your physical attackers if you didn't equip both from the Mines. The armor shop has a full Mythril line: Mythril Armor (350 Gil) and Mythril Shields (180 Gil) for front-liners, Mythril Bracers (120 Gil) for your casters (they boost intellect and spirit), and Mythril Gloves (120 Gil) as a cheaper alternative. The magic shop carries the same level 1 spells as Ur, so skip it if you already bought those.

Speak with Cid and he'll point you to the blacksmith in the northernmost house. Takka installs a Mythril Ram on your airship, letting you smash through the boulder blocking your path west. Fly through the gap and head for Canaan to bring Cid home.
