Final Fantasy 3 Pixel Remaster Walkthrough

Final Fantasy 3 Pixel Remaster

This guide covers the full game with a 22-chapter walkthrough from Altar Cave to the Cloud of Darkness, every one of the 367 chests, the complete 225-entry bestiary, all 8 summons including the optional Odin, Leviathan, and Bahamut boss fights, and the full trophy guide for the platinum. Four Gold trophies are missable, and the missables checklist tracks every cutoff in one place.

Originally released in 1990 on the Famicom in Japan, Final Fantasy 3 introduced the Job system and the eight-summon line that later FFs would build on. The original never received a Western release in its 2D form; the Pixel Remaster (2021) is the first official English version of the original FF3, separate from the 2006 DS remake. Four orphans on the Floating Continent rediscover the Wind Crystal and set out to restore balance between Light and Dark across two continents.

Crystals & Jobs

FF3 introduced the Job system. Every character starts as an Onion Knight and unlocks new jobs as the four crystals awaken. Wind opens the early game with the two physical core roles and the three magic specialists. Fire adds a Warrior upgrade alongside three flexible utility classes. Water is the widest payout in the game, deepening every physical role and bringing in the Bard and Evoker. Earth grants the Lv 8 magic upgrades and the deterministic Summoner. Two more jobs sit behind the optional Eureka dungeon for endgame builds.

Missables

The cleanup is built around three one-time dungeons. Castle Hein seals after the Hein fight, the Wrecked Ship vanishes once you finish the Cave of Tides, and Doga’s Grotto collapses after Doga and Unei. Across them you sweep 20 missable bestiary entries, 19 chests, 3 hidden items, and the Living Woods location. Four Gold trophies depend on the cleanup and the Crystal Tower mirror is the final lock before the endgame.

Boss Strategies

Data-mined AI rotations, HP, weaknesses, and tested strategies for every major boss. Each boss links to the chapter where it appears.

Bestiary

225 enemies total, 20 of them missable. Five sit inside Castle Hein and five inside Doga’s Grotto, with ten more on the sea routes that vanish once the Enterprise is shot down at Saronia. The hardest grinds are the rare Crystal Tower dragons at 10% per floor and King Behemoth in the Ancients’ Maze, both needed for Field Research - Professional.

Trophies

31 PSN trophies break down as 16 Bronze, 8 Silver, 6 Gold, and the Platinum. Four Gold trophies are missable and tied to the cleanup: Field Research - Professional for the bestiary, Legendary Treasure Hunter for chests, Item Detector for hidden items, and Adventurous Wayfarer for map locations. The 4x EXP and 4x Gil boost settings don’t void anything, so leave them on for the full playthrough.

Chocobo Woods

13 Chocobo Woods are scattered across both continents and every one needs visiting for Adventurous Wayfarer. None auto-register, so the cleanup is an Invincible loop at the end of the game, with one Enterprise stop for the Falgabard wood. The Living Woods west of Castle Hein counts toward the same trophy and is the only location with a real cutoff before the Crystal Tower mirror.
