Kashuan Keep
You’ve got the Goddess’s Bell from Snow Cavern. Kashuan Keep holds the Sunfire you need to destroy the Dreadnought. This chapter covers Kashuan Keep and the Chocobo Forest for 11 chests and 8 new bestiary entries.
From Salamand, fly back to Poft. In the pub, talk to Cid’s assistant at the far-right table and book passage to Kashuan Keep. The airship drops you right at the entrance.
Kashuan Keep
Kashuan Keep is 5 floors deep with 11 chests and one boss. Rest up outside before you enter.
Inside, a magical flame blocks the path. Use the Goddess’s Bell on the door behind it to unlock the way forward.
Past the door, you’ll meet Gordon, prince of Kashuan and brother to Scott (the dying soldier from Fynn’s pub back in chapter 1). He came for the Sunfire alone but couldn’t proceed without Egil’s Torch, the relic needed to carry the flame. Gordon joins as your fourth member with a Spear and Bronze gear. Hand him the Mythril Sword from 4F when you find it.
New Enemies
Ogres (100 HP) are the hardest hitters across most floors; Protect cuts their damage. Ogre Mages (140 HP) open most turns with Lv5 Blizzard hitting the whole party, so kill them before they get a cast off. Ghasts (100 HP) cast Blind, so keep Esuna handy. Wraiths (60 HP) are undead and weak to Fire, but otherwise lighter than the Ogres on these floors.
1F (1 chest). Follow the path. In the next room, walk south to the bottom-right corner for the Cure Tome chest. Back up, go left, ignore the door, continue south to the stairs.
2F (1 chest). Go right, then down. Continue right to the end, then up for the 500 Gil chest. Follow the path around to the next staircase.
3F (1 chest). Head left into the statue room. Three paths lead south; the first is a dead end. Take the second one for the Golden Shield chest, guarded by 5 Wererats. They can poison but aren’t dangerous, just tedious. Double back, go right, then down to the stairs.
4F (3 chests). Go left at the fork and walk south to the first door. Inside is a treasure room with three chests: Mythril Axe, Werebuster, and Mythril Sword. The Werebuster gets a bonus against Were-type enemies (Werewolf, Werepanther, Wererat) and is a solid upgrade for the floors ahead. Give the Mythril Sword to Gordon. Exit the treasure room, go up, veer left past the door, then south to 5F.
5F (4 chests). Go up and right, then push south. Mid-floor sits the Golden Armor chest, which triggers a fight with 4 Mines and 2 Balloons.
After the fight, push right and north to the door in the top-right. Inside: Mallet, Antidote, and Eye Drops.
Leave the room, go south, then left at the split. Follow the stairs down to Red Soul waiting in a room below.
How to Beat Red Soul
After the fight, grab Egil’s Torch from the chest behind it.
Obtaining the Sunfire
Cast Teleport to warp back to the entrance (or walk all 5 floors back). Re-enter the keep and interact with the flame at the front. Use Egil’s Torch to capture the Sunfire.
As you leave, a cutscene plays. The Dreadnought flies overhead and attacks Cid’s airship with Hilda aboard.
Chocobo Forest
Before returning to Altair, go south from Kashuan Keep through the trees. Look for a small clearing between them. That’s the Chocobo Forest. Worth visiting now.
Chocobos let you travel the world map at speed with no random battles. They return to the forest when you dismount or enter a town, so it’s not a permanent transport.
Returning to Altair
Ride a Chocobo back toward Altair. It skips random encounters and gets you there fast.
In the rebel hideout, you learn Hilda has been captured. She left Altair to meet up with you and was aboard Cid’s airship when the Dreadnought attacked.
Find Minwu upstairs tending to the King. Ask him about Dreadnought. Hilda and Cid are being held aboard it. The next chapter takes you onto the Dreadnought to rescue them and detonate the engine with the Sunfire. Stock Potions before you go.
