Coliseum

8 New Enemies 4 Chests

The real Hilda is the prize in the Emperor’s arena, deep in the eastern desert. Gordon’s back in the party. This chapter covers the Coliseum and the missable Rebel Camp for 4 chests and 8 new bestiary entries (2 missable).

Sailing to the Coliseum

Board your ship and sail east toward the gap between the landmasses, then south and east again. Dock on the coast and walk through the Palamecia Desert to reach the Coliseum.

Antlion (370 HP, weak Ice + Poison) and Land Ray (450 HP) roam the desert and stop spawning after the Cyclone event, so log at least one of each on the way in (see the missables page for the full pre-Cyclone list). Wild Horn and Poison Toad can also wander out here, but they appear more reliably in Cave of Mysidia and Tropical Island later, so we’ll track them there. Heal up before heading inside.

The Coliseum, deep in the Palamecia Desert.

The Arena

Walk straight north through the entrance toward the gate. The Emperor appears, addresses the crowd, and announces his entertainment. Save before approaching the gate; the boss fight starts immediately.

The Emperor sends you into the arena.

How to Beat Behemoth

After the fight, the Empire takes you prisoner and throws the party into the cells below the arena.

The Cells

You wake up on B2. Walk to the iron gate and Paul (the rebel thief from Fynn, who you met at Semitt Falls) shows up, knocks out the guard, and frees you. No random encounters on this floor, so take your time with the chests.

All four chests are on B2. From your cell, walk east and then north for the Antidote chest. It’s a monster chest guarded by 2 Stalagmites, 3 Dual Heads, and 3 Dual Deads. Double back toward your starting cell, go up, take the first right, continue up, then right again. The remaining three chests (Ether, Elixir, Cottage) are all in one room behind the door.

Follow the path around toward the top right and take the stairs up to B1. Random encounters resume here. Specters (300 HP, weak Fire) occasionally cast Break for instant petrify, so keep Esuna Lv6+ ready. Parasites (300 HP, weak Ice) show up in groups much more often. Wizards (540 HP) and Sorcerers (140 HP) cast high-level black magic but spawn rarely; a later chapter has Sorcerers as a guaranteed chest fight, so don’t worry about logging one now. Keep HP high between fights.

Follow the corridor until you reach three cells. Hilda is in the rightmost one. Gordon takes Hilda and leaves the party. Go left and up the stairs to work your way back to 1F. Teleport doesn’t work inside the Coliseum, so you’ll walk the entire way out.

The real Princess Hilda, locked in the third cell.

Return to Altair

Sail back to Altair and rest at the Inn. Stock Antidotes and Potions if you’re running low. Talk to the guard at the entrance and he’ll direct you northwest to the Rebel Camp, where the rebellion is preparing to retake Castle Fynn.

Rebel Camp

From Altair, walk northwest across the land. The Rebel Camp is a short walk. Inside, talk to Hilda and Gordon to learn the plan. Once you’ve spoken to both, leave and canoe north across the water to Castle Fynn.

The next chapter covers the rebellion’s assault on the occupied castle. Stock Potions and Phoenix Downs before heading out, and make sure your healing magic is well-leveled.
