Magic Shop Vendor

There are 40 spells in Final Fantasy 2 Pixel Remaster split evenly into 20 White and 20 Black. Spells are bought as tomes (e.g., Fire Tome, Cure Tome) and used once to teach that spell to one character. Anyone can learn anything; there are no class restrictions. Each character carries up to 16 spells, so plan the loadouts.

The three spells worth chasing:

  • Ultima (White): a story drop from Minwu inside the Mysidian Tower. The signature endgame spell, with a unique scaling formula that rewards leveled-up parties.
  • Holy and Flare: top-tier damage in each school. Holy Tome (20,000 gil) is in Mysidia; Flare Tome (40,000 gil) is at Mysidian Tower 8F and the Jade Passage.
  • Haste and Berserk: late-game physical buffs from the Jade Passage. Haste adds an extra attack per turn; Berserk multiplies attack power. Stack both on your sword users for the final boss.

Every spell has 16 levels and grows by use. Spell level equals the number of hits per cast, so a Lv6 Cure heals six times in one turn. MP cost and power both scale with rank; the Power column shows the level 1 value. Intelligence drives Black Magic damage, Spirit drives White Magic, so train casters on knives or staves to keep both stats and spell ranks growing in parallel.
