The Rare Red Rock

At the End of Time, Gaspar finally has something useful to say: Dreamstone is a prehistoric mineral, so you'll need to travel back far enough to find it. The unused pillar leads to 65,000,000 B.C.; step through when you're ready. If you've been fighting Spekkio every 10 levels, do it now - you won't have another chance for a while.

Mystic Mountains

Most enemies in this era are weak to Lightning; if you have Lightning 2, you're set. Don't worry if you don't - Chrono Trigger isn't a game where deliberate grinding pays off. You can always replay with New Game+ for more power.

Ambush and rescue. The moment you arrive, Reptites attack. You'll fight two groups back-to-back, so bring party members with multi-target Techs. Equip the Rage Band for counter-attacks and the Silver Stud to reduce MP costs. After the second fight, a woman leaps in to help finish off the remaining enemies.

Meeting Ayla. She introduces herself as chief of the Ioka tribe and invites you to her village. Follow her southeast; she runs ahead on a higher ledge while you take the lower path. Grab the Berserker accessory from the chest along the way. Continue south past Runners and Kilwalas until you exit.

Ioka Village

Head east and north to reach the village. In the eastern hut, a man offers sweet water that restores HP and MP for free - use it whenever you need healing.

Trading Hut. Cross the north bridge to find the trading post. You can exchange Petals, Fangs, Horns, and Feathers for weapons and equipment; these materials drop from prehistoric enemies. You can't trade yet since you just arrived, but remember this place for later.

Hunting Range. Northeast of the village lies the Hunting Range - a great spot to farm trading materials. When it rains, the rare Nu enemy appears and drops 3 of each item type.

Chief's Hut. Head west to find Ayla's hut. Talk to her; she takes you to the Meeting Grounds for a celebration.

The Celebration

The party is in full swing with music and dancing. Talk to your party members and the villagers; wait until they stop moving around before approaching Ayla again. She'll tell you about Azala and the Reptites who threaten the human villages.

Drinking contest. Talk to Ayla once more and she shows you a red rock - the Dreamstone you need. She offers to hand it over if you beat her in a challenge. Accept, and it becomes a button-mashing competition: press A rapidly to drink soup bowls faster than Ayla. If you lose, you can try again immediately. When you win, she gives you the Dreamstone. You share one last bowl together and pass out.

Gate Key Stolen

You wake up the next morning to discover the Gate Key is missing. Without it, you can't use time gates to return home.

Head to the Chief's Hut where Ayla is sleeping and wake her up. She determines the Reptites must have stolen it and insists on joining your party to track them down. The thieves fled south toward the Forest Maze.
