The New King
You start this chapter locked up in the Blackbird with nothing - no equipment, no items, no money. Unless Ayla's in your party, you can't even attack. Check the door and climb the ladder to look at the ship; one of your party members will point out another level you can use to reach the grating system. If you have Ayla, you can ambush the guard outside the door. Otherwise, head up into the grates.
The Blackbird
Press A at the light patches on the grate to look through the floor below. Head northeast, then a little south, then west to find a ladder leading to a room with a single sleeping guard. You'll recover the 1st Character's Equipment here - finally, you can fight.
Third character's gear. Head all the way south to see Dalton renovating the Epoch. Start with the ladder in the southwestern corner; go through the door to pick up the 3rd Character's Equipment after a small fight. The right door just has enemies - skip it if you want.
Money. Head over the conveyor belt and through the left door to recover your Money after another fight. The right door just leads back to your prison cell.
Second character's gear. In the next pair of doors, the left one contains a robot fight. The right one has your 2nd Character's Equipment.
Items. Head into the next area and go through the left door to pick up your Items. You now have everything back.
Magic Tab. Before leaving, climb a ladder and head to the northeast portion of the grates to find a Magic Tab. It only appears after you've recovered everything.
Blackbird Wing
The exit is in the same room where you found your items. Step outside onto the wing of the Blackbird; the wind pushes you around, so keep your footing.
When you're ready to progress, head to the bottom-left corner of the wing.
Boss: Golem Boss
Golem Boss
This fight is a joke. The Golem Boss counts down from 5 twice, does nothing, then starts quivering about how he hates heights. He runs away if you let him.
- He literally doesn't attack - just counts down and panics
- Unload your best Double Techs and single techs to kill him before he flees
- 2,500 XP and 2,000 Gil is worth the effort
- If you can't kill him in time, he runs and you get nothing
Boss: Dalton Plus
You jump straight from the Golem Boss into another fight with Dalton.
Dalton Plus
Similarly easy. Dalton casts Iron Orb a few times then goes down. He's weak to Lightning this time.
- Use a few powerful techs and he's done
- With Marle, Lucca, and Ayla: use Cube Toss then Megaton Bomb and he dies
- Lightning attacks deal extra damage
- Charm the Power Meal before finishing him
The Flying Epoch
The Epoch can now fly. When prompted, press Y then X to fire its weapons and blow up the Blackbird. Your party insists on finding Crono before going anywhere else.
Last Village shop. The Nu in the middle hut now sells new equipment - most of it you already found in the Ocean Palace, but grab anything you missed.

North Cape: Magus
Head to the North Cape (northern tip of the continent). Your party confronts Magus, and you'll witness a flashback explaining everything - how the three Gurus (Gaspar, Melchior, Belthasar) ended up in their respective time periods, and how Janus became Magus.
If you recruit Magus: He joins your party with powerful magic. Highly recommended, especially on a first playthrough. He knows Shadow, Fire, Ice, and Lightning spells, plus his unique Dark Matter.
If you fight Magus: If Frog is in your party, he challenges Magus alone. If you kill Magus, Frog turns human in the ending. But you lose access to Magus permanently.
Magus (Optional)
Same fight as before - he changes his magic barrier and you must match it. Only fight him if you want Frog's human ending or you're confident you can beat the final boss without Magus.
- Match his barrier element - attack with what he's weak to
- Keep healing throughout
- If Frog fights alone, balance physical attacks and techs carefully
- Best saved for New Game+ if you want all endings
Either way, Magus tells you that Gaspar the Guru of Time might be able to help find Crono. You receive the Amulet - a gift from Schala.
