The Sun Stone

This quest crosses all time periods. You'll fight a tricky boss in 2300 A.D., leave a stone to charge for 65 million years, deal with a thief in 1000 A.D. by changing history, and craft Lucca's ultimate weapon. Start early since you'll need to wait between time periods.

Quest Overview

  • Time Periods: 2300 A.D., 65,000,000 B.C., 600 A.D., 1000 A.D.
  • Boss: Son of Sun (12,000 HP)
  • Key Items: Moon Stone, Sun Stone, Wondershot, Sunglasses
  • Character Required: Lucca (for final sequence)
  • Gaspar's Hint: "A very special stone that can shine its light on each generation, from the distant past to the far future..."

Sun Temple: Son of Sun

Head to 2300 A.D. and check your map - the Sun Temple is on the island southwest of Death Peak. Before entering, equip your best fire-resistant armor. The more fire protection, the easier this fight gets.

Son of Sun

HP (Center) 12,000
HP (Each Flame) 30,000
Charm (Center) Black Plate
Charm (Flames) Elixir (x5 each)
Location Sun Temple

A gimmicky fight. Never attack the center - it counters with Flare for massive fire damage. You can only damage it by hitting the correct flame.

  • Don't attack the center - it counters with Flare
  • Only use regular attacks - techs don't work on the flames
  • One flame is the "correct" one at any time; the others counter with fire
  • When you hit the right flame, you'll hear a "ding" sound and damage transfers to the center
  • Keep attacking the same flame until the formation shuffles, then find the new correct flame
  • Fire-resistant gear makes the fight much safer; Red Mail lets you absorb the counterattacks
  • Charm the center for a Black Plate before finishing
Rewards: 3800 Exp 40 TP 2000 Gil

After you hit the correct flame enough times, Son of Sun loses its flames and retreats deeper into the palace. Follow it and watch it transform into a Moon Stone. The stone is depleted and needs 65 million years of sunlight to recharge.

Charging the Moon Stone

65,000,000 B.C. Head to the Sun Shrine in the northeast corner of the map. It's a mysterious spot where the sun never sets. Place the Moon Stone on the altar in the sunlight.

2300 A.D. Return to the Sun Shrine to check on the stone. It's missing - your party guesses it's been gone for about 1,300 years. Someone stole it.

1000 A.D. Visit the Sun Shrine - the stone was recently taken. Fly southwest to Porre; the Mayor's Manor is suspiciously glowing. Talk to the Mayor and he'll deny having the stone. He's lying, but you can't force him to give it back. Time to change history.

Fixing the Mayor's Greed

Buy Spiced Jerky. Visit the Snail Stop shop near Porre (between the town and the forest) and buy Spiced Jerky.

600 A.D. Go to the Elder's House in Porre (the building that becomes the Mayor's Manor). Talk to the woman inside; she says she needs some Spiced Jerky. When she offers to buy it, give it to her for free. She'll be stunned by your generosity and vow to raise her children to be fine, upstanding, generous people.

1000 A.D. Return to the Mayor's Manor. In this new timeline, the Mayor is generous instead of greedy. He happily gives you the Moon Stone, saying he just found it lying around.

Finish charging. Place the Moon Stone back at the Sun Shrine in 1000 A.D. Now nothing will disturb it for the remaining centuries.

Collecting the Sun Stone

Put Lucca in your party and head to the Sun Shrine in 2300 A.D. The Moon Stone has fully charged and become a Sun Stone. You're automatically taken to Lucca's house.

Lucca uses the Sun Stone's power to create the Wondershot, her ultimate weapon - though it's a bit unpredictable. Taban enters and gives you the Sunglasses, which raise your attack power.

Equipment Notes

Wondershot deals random damage - anywhere from 10% to 300% of normal. On average it hits harder than other guns, but you might roll low against a boss at a bad time. Some players love it; others keep a backup weapon for reliability.

Sunglasses boost damage by 25%. Great for physical attackers like Ayla or Crono. They'll eventually be replaced by the Prism Spectacles if you complete the Rainbow Shell quest.
