Geno Dome

Robo's sidequest takes you back to the factory where robots are manufactured to exterminate humanity. You'll navigate puzzle rooms, charge Robo with electricity, and reunite him with his old partner Atropos. Save this dungeon for late in your sidequest run; it's longer than the others.

Quest Overview

  • Time Period: 2300 A.D.
  • Bosses: Atropos XR (6,000 HP), Mother Brain (5,000 HP)
  • Key Items: Teraton Arm, Crisis Arm, Speed Capsule, Magic Capsule (x2), Strength Capsule, Vigilant's Hat
  • Character Required: Robo (must be party leader)
  • Gaspar's Hint: "There's a task to be done in the Future, where machinery originated..."

The Dungeon

Conveyor belt gauntlet. Right at the start, you'll step on a conveyor belt and fight five waves of Debuggest and Proto 4 enemies. Use your strongest multi-target magic. At this point these enemies shouldn't give you much trouble.

Important: There's a blinking blue dot directly east of where you enter the next room. Don't touch it unless you want to redo the conveyor fights. It's the exit back.

First floor layout. From where you enter, go west along the corridor and take the first passage north. Open the chest for a Full Tonic. Watch the charger robot - he shows you how the system works. Follow him after he charges himself up; he'll open a door near where you entered by stepping into an alcove. Head into that room for a quick fight, then grab Full Tonic and 50,000 G from the chests. Back at the computer near where the charger bot came from, you can read up on the robots, dolls, conveyor belt, and sealed doors. What you actually need to do is find two Poyozo Dolls to unlock the path to Mother Brain.

First Poyozo Doll. Head to the northwest area. There are three switches here. Set the center switch ON and the others OFF to open the charge pod alcove. Get Robo charged and step into the receiving pod to open the sealed door. Inside, grab the first Poyozo Doll. Check where it was sitting for a Speed Capsule.

Second floor. Take the elevator in the southeast corner. You'll find a save point and a chest with Lapis nearby. Fight a few groups of Laser Guards. Ignore the main door to the north for now - that's where you need both dolls. Go down the ladder to the southwest. Grab 15,000 G from a chest, then go through the door to witness humans being processed by the plant. Grim stuff. There's a dead end with a Full Ether on the other side of this room.

Leave the way you came and go back up the ladder. Head east until you see a door blocked by red laser beams. Step back and have Robo run at the switch he can't reach - he'll leap at it. This opens the path to a Megalixir and a Magic Capsule. Now go through the ordinary door we ignored earlier (next to the elevator). Grab a Strength Capsule at the beginning of the long hallway. Fight another group of robots to find an elevator going back to the first floor.

Second Poyozo Doll. Flip the switch to the bottom-left to remove a laser blocking the conveyor belt. Next, go up and to the left of the door you entered; there's a switch to reverse the conveyor belt's direction. Also grab the Magic Capsule in the secret passage you walk through to reach the switch. At the base of the conveyor belt to the right, there's a room with enemies and two chests: Elixir and Lapis.

The timed charge run. Head back to where you get Robo charged up. You have to be very fast here. Race from the charger, down the hall and around to the conveyor belt (now helping you move faster since you reversed it), and into the alcove with the locked door. The charge opens the passage to the security robot. Grab Hi-Ether and Turbo Ether from the chests. The broken green robot slowly follows you. Lead it back to the security robot in the southwest corner - watch for corners, it gets stuck easily. When the two robots face each other, they short out. Now you can grab the Vigilant's Hat and the second Poyozo Doll.

Head back up the elevator. On your way to place the dolls, you'll run into Robo's old partner.

Boss: Atropos XR

Save your game first. Head west from the save point and Robo encounters Atropos. She's been reprogrammed by Mother Brain and gone a bit bonkers. Robo has to fight her alone.

Atropos XR

HP 6,000
Charm None
Location Geno Dome

One-on-one duel. Atropos uses all Robo's techs except Shock. She's slightly weaker than him but still hits hard.

  • Equip the Rage Band for counter-attacks while healing
  • Use Heal Beam when HP drops below 400
  • Stick to physical attacks; save MP for healing
  • Steady rhythm: attack, attack, heal. Repeat.

After the fight, Atropos briefly regains her senses. She gives Robo her Ribbon, permanently raising his Speed by 3 and Magic Defense by 10. Then she shuts down.

Boss: Mother Brain

Return to the save point if you need to. Go back where you fought Atropos; Robo jumps up and hits a switch to reveal a hidden room. Place both Poyozo Dolls on the green pads to open the central door. Mother Brain waits inside.

Mother Brain

HP (Mother Brain) 5,000
HP (Each Display) 1
Charm (Mother Brain) Blue Plate
Charm (Displays) Elixir (each)
Location Geno Dome

Mother Brain is protected by three Displays. If you kill all three, she causes serious problems - keep at least one alive.

  • Start with a powerful multi-enemy attack to kill all but one Display
  • Displays heal Mother Brain for 1,000 HP periodically
  • If all Displays die, Mother Brain goes berserk; don't let that happen
  • Keep one Display alive and just outdamage the healing
  • Use your best triple techs if Robo has a rock equipped
  • Charm the Blue Plate from Mother Brain before killing her
Rewards: 3000 Exp 40 TP 3000 Gil

After winning, Robo receives the Teraton Arm and Crisis Arm. All machines in the factory shut down. You're done here.

Teraton Arm is Robo's consistent powerhouse - high damage, no gimmicks. Keep this equipped for most situations.

Crisis Arm uses a strange damage formula based on the last digit of Robo's current HP. When HP ends in 9, it hits like a truck. When it ends in 0, it does almost nothing. Some players love the gambling aspect; others stick with Teraton Arm for reliability.
