The Queen Returns
After taking a bold trip into the unknown through Lucca's telepod, you'll find yourself in unfamiliar territory. The time gate deposits you in Truce Canyon; it looks similar to what you know, but something's different.
Truce Canyon
Three Blue Imps ambush you immediately. This is likely your first real combat unless you fought Gato or visited Guardia Forest earlier; each Blue Imp dies in a single hit, so dispatch them quickly. Use Potions if needed and rest at the inn later.
Getting treasure. After the fight, move through the trees to the left and reach the rocky stream area. Climb up, then walk left; two birds fly in and drop off two more Blue Imps. Defeat them and Crono levels up to Level 2, learning his first Tech: Cyclone. Head to the northwest corner and open the first chest for a Potion. Go south and grab the Power Glove from the second chest - equip it on Crono for a strength boost.
Walk south along the bottom edge to avoid the Imps playing with green balls. If you engage them, you'll fight two Blue Imps and two Roundillos; skip this fight for now since you'll want to keep Crono's level low for a secret later. Exit south to the overworld.
Truce Village (600 A.D.)
Out in the world again, things look familiar but different. Explore Truce Village; a woman in the northern residence explains that it's the year 600 A.D. and Guardia is at war with the Mystics. The bridge to Porre has been destroyed.
The inn. Rest at the inn if you need to recover. You'll notice a strange black box beside the bed that you can't open; these sealed chests become useful much later in the game once you power up the pendant. For now, just note their locations.
Guardia Forest (600 A.D.)
Head to Guardia Forest west of Truce (just south of the castle). Many enemies wait here, both on the trail and hidden in bushes. If you take the left path, you'll only need to fight three Blue Eaglets. These enemies only appear here in the entire game, and only when you have one or two party members.
Items. You can interact with bushes by pressing A; one bush contains a Shelter, but the others trigger enemy fights. If you want more Shelters, leave and re-enter the map - you can grab another from the same bush as many times as you like.
Power Tab. Don't miss the Power Tab at the bottom right area within the grassy patch on the northern side. Getting close to the bottom sparkling spot near the rock triggers a fight with two Roundillo Riders, so grab the Power Tab first. Use it immediately on Crono to permanently boost his Power stat. Head north to reach Guardia Castle.
Guardia Castle (600 A.D.)
Enter the castle and the guards make fun of your appearance. A familiar-looking queen walks up and talks them down, granting you entry. This is Queen Leene - or so everyone believes.
Exploring the castle. Feel free to look around before continuing the story. The ordinary non-sealed chests here can be opened without affecting the corresponding chests in 1000 A.D.
- Knight's quarters (west): Talk to the woman by the bed to restore HP
- Kitchen (east): Stand in front of the northwest chair and press A while facing the table to eat. The cooks offer three choices: Refresh Salad (restores MP), Power Stew (restores HP), or Hyper Kabob (restores both). Grab the Ether from the chest by the cooks.
- Chancellor's room (northwest tower, top floor): Grab the 100G on the third floor. The Chancellor at the top is acting strangely; enter his room and open the chest for Bronze Mail. Equip it on Crono.
- Queen's tower (northeast): Grab the Potion on the third floor.
Meeting the Queen
Head upstairs via the northeast stairwell to the Queen's Room. Talk to the guard blocking the entrance, then continue inside. Grab the Ether from behind the chair. Approach the queen and she reveals herself as Marle; she thanks you for coming after her. Suddenly, blue sparkles appear - the same effect from Lucca's telepod - and Marle vanishes before your eyes.
Try to exit the castle and Lucca arrives. She explains that Marle is actually Princess Nadia, and that Queen Leene is her ancestor. Since Marle was mistaken for Leene, the search for the real queen was called off. If Leene is never rescued, Marle's entire bloodline will cease to exist. You and Lucca must find and rescue the real Queen Leene to restore the timeline.
Talk to people around the castle for clues about the queen's whereabouts. Toma enters the inn after a few seconds and has information as well. Make sure you grabbed the Bronze Mail from the chancellor's room before you leave; the next chapter begins your search for Queen Leene.
