Missables Checklist - Point of No Return
Chrono Trigger is forgiving compared to most RPGs—you can revisit almost everything. But certain areas close permanently, and some items have limited windows. This page covers what you can actually miss; for detailed item lists, see Charm Items and Sealed Chests.
Areas That Close Forever
These locations become inaccessible after certain story events. Clean them out before moving on.
Millennial Fair (1000 A.D.). Closes after you return from 600 A.D. the first time. Get your Silver Points rewards from Norstein Bekkler's tent—especially the Clone Doll (40 SP), which you'll need to resurrect Crono later. And if you're on NG+ with Ayla, Charm Gato for an Ambrosia.
Prison Towers (1000 A.D.). One-time area during The Trial. Grab the Mid-Potion from the cell area and knock out guards for their equipment before you escape.
Manolia Cathedral (600 A.D.). Transforms after you rescue Queen Leene. The Naga-ette Bromide is in a dresser in the lower-left room; trade it to the old man in Dorino Village for a Magic Capsule. Don't forget the chests.
Magus's Castle (600 A.D.). Collapses after you defeat Magus. If you want Charm items from Ozzie and Flea, bring Ayla. You'll get another chance at Ozzie's Fort later, but the castle loot is gone.
Tyranno Lair (65,000,000 B.C.). Gone after Lavos crashes. Charm Nizbel II (Third Eye), Azala (Magic Capsule), and Black Tyranno (Power Capsule) before you finish. All chests too.
Ocean Palace (12,000 B.C.). Destroyed during Lavos Beckons. Collect every chest as you go; you can't backtrack once events start. Golem Twins have Magic Capsules if you brought Ayla.
Black Omen Strategy
The Black Omen appears in 12,000 B.C., 600 A.D., and 1000 A.D. But clearing it in an earlier era removes it from all later eras too.
Optimal order: Clear 1000 A.D. first, then 600 A.D., then 12,000 B.C. That's three full runs' worth of loot—including three chances at Queen Zeal's Prism Helm and Prism Dress via Charm. See Charm Items for the full list.
Character Events
These events are easy to miss if you don't know they exist.
Frog: Golden Gemstone. At Denadoro Mountains with Frog as party lead, catch the shiny object the kid throws. Required for the Master Mune Triple Tech (DS/PC only). If you miss it, you can't get the tech.
Lucca: Save Her Mother. After Robo plants the forest (during Fiona's Shrine), a Gate appears at the campfire. Enter it, and you'll be in Lucca's past. Input L-A-R-A at the machine to save her mother's legs. Affects dialogue and the Beyond Time ending.
Lucca: Taban's Gifts. Visit Lucca's house at various story points. Her father Taban gives her unique equipment: Taban Suit, Taban Helm, Taban Vest. Check back periodically.
Robo: Ribbon. After Robo spends 400 years planting Fiona's forest, he receives a Ribbon that permanently boosts Speed and Magic Defense. This happens automatically during the sidequest—just don't skip the scene.
Trial Verdict
Your actions at the Millennial Fair determine whether Crono is found guilty or innocent during The Trial. The verdict only changes dialogue; gameplay isn't affected.
For a "not guilty" verdict:
- Return Marle's Pendant immediately when you find it (don't walk around with it)
- Don't eat the old man's lunch at the fair
- Wait for Marle at Leene's Bell before exploring
- Don't try to sell the Pendant to Melchior
Sealed Chests Note
Some sealed chests exist in both 600 A.D. and 1000 A.D. If you open the 600 A.D. version first, the 1000 A.D. upgraded version disappears. Use the upgrade trick to get both items—full details in the Sealed Chests guide.
